Portraits Without an Address

This series is based on the reinterpretation of found anonymous portraits—images that have lost their names, context, and sense of belonging. Rather than restoring them, the artist enters into a dialogue with these photographs, layering new visual elements and constructing alternative, imagined biographies.

The works exist at the intersection of document and fiction: the original image retains the trace of time while simultaneously undergoing transformation, losing its stable identity. The intervention emphasizes not the recovery of the past, but the impossibility of bringing it back.

The absence of an address becomes a metaphor for fractured memory and displaced authorship. These portraits no longer belong to anyone; they enter a space of new and open interpretation, where the viewer’s gaze completes their story.

The "Portrait Without an Address" series was selected as one of the 11 photo series chosen from 233 submissions for the competitive exhibition "Ballad of a Woman", held as part of the 11th S. Yurkovsky International Photo Festival "PhotoKrok" in Vitebsk.

This year, the festival brought together 371 photographers from 146 cities across 14 countries, who submitted 2,425 individual photographs and 233 photo series.

The festival jury will determine the award winners during the festival, which will take place in Vitebsk from 24 to 28 June 2026. The awards ceremony will be held at the festival's official closing ceremony on 28 June 2026.
